Competition: Win a Kindle worth £59.99

We’ve teamed up with a few of our favourite family travel bloggers to bring you THE BEST competition. We have a Kindle worth £59.99 to giveaway to one lucky reader of POD Travels, Mini Travellers, Extraordinary Chaos, Like Love Do or Parentshaped.

It’s a regular occurrence to find a pile of books at the foot of POD’s bed. She loves books, always has. If she’s not reading, she’s writing stories or drawing. She’s the best storyteller I know! POD will be eight on Christmas Day so I suspect a Kindle may well be coming her way. Much as she loves touching and feeling books, they’re great for travelling. POD still enjoys her bedtime stories and is also fascinated by educational books that teach her about different countries or people. Here are a few of the books she’s enjoyed which are suitable for 5 to 8-year-olds. Our brilliant Kindle competition follows.

Books about the world…

The Travel Book: Mind Blowing Stuff on Every Country in the World (Lonely Planet Kids)

A world tour across 200 countries packed with amazing facts about wildlife, how people live, food and festivals. Not forgetting those interesting and quirky insights. Every country gets it’s own page so there’s plenty to keep kids occupied.

Fantastically great women who changed the world (by Kate Pankhurst)

Fancy flying through the sky with explorer Amelia Earhart or reading about the adventures of Mary Seacole? Written by Kate Pankhurst, a descendant of Emmeline Pankhurst, this book provides fascinating facts about amazing women who changed the world.

Alastair Humphreys’ Great Adventurers

Covering explorers who crossed land, sea and sky, this inspiring book covers incredible journeys undertaken by heroic and impressive explorers like Nellie Bly (round the world in 80 days), Michael Collins (Apollo Moon mission astronaut) and Apsley Cherry-Garrard (Scott’s Antarctic expedition).

Books for their travels…

What The Ladybird Heard On Holiday (by Julia Donaldson)

We’re huge fans of Julia Donaldson, I think we have all of her books! Too many favourites to count on one hand that’s for sure. What The Ladybird Heard On Holiday sees Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh back to their old tricks, trying to steal a monkey from the zoo.

James and the Giant Peach(by Roald Dahl)

James and the Giant Peach tells the story of James Henry Trotter who lives with two ghastly aunties. Aunt Sponge is enormously fat with a face that looks boiled and Aunt Spiker is bony and screeching. He’s very lonely until one day something peculiar happens…!

Awful Auntie (by David Williams)

Stella Saxby is the sole heir to Saxby Hall. But awful Aunt Alberta and her giant owl will stop at nothing to get it from her. Luckily Stella has a secret – and slightly spooky – weapon up her sleeve…

Tilly and the Time Machine (by Adrian Edmonson)

Tilly is seven and a half – and about to make history. When Tilly’s dad builds a time machine in the shed there’s only one place she really wants to go: back to her sixth birthday party, when she ate too many cupcakes and her mummy was still here. But then something goes wrong! Tilly’s dad gets stuck in the past and only she can save him….will they make it back in time for tea?

The Worst Witch (by Jill Murphy)

Mildred Hubble is a trainee at Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches, but she’s making an awful mess of it. She keeps getting her spells wrong and crashing her broomstick. And when she turns Ethel, the teacher’s pet into her worst enemy, chaos ensues…
